JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

JOB DESCRIPTION:
A: Purpose and Scope
The Director of Operations is responsible the Operations activities
within the company. The Director of Operations is also responsible for ensuring
the Operations Department's conformance to the company quality system in
accordance with customer and company requirements.
B. Responsibilities
Establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing
operations, product quality, reliability, and safety. Determine and enforce
-- through functional groups - productivity, quality and safety requirements
in accordance with real company needs, based on current regulations and
state-of-the art product development. Promote company wide quality improvement
efforts. Evaluate and develop improved techniques for the control of operations,
quality, reliability and safety.
Directly responsible for implementation and maintenance of the
company Operations procedures, reporting on the performance and initiating
improvements for Operations. The Director of Operations also has responsibility
to act as liaison with external parties on matters relating to the procurement
of services and materials for the company's products.
C. Organization Relationships
The Director of Operations reports directly to the President
of the company and has a support responsibility to all functional directors
and managers.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A. Education and Training
The Director of Operations should have a four year technical
degree, preferably in a field that offers as opportunity to gain a well rounded
background. Additional class work in management type courses and problem-solving
techniques (i.e. Operations Research, Statistical Quality Control/Statistical
Process Control, etc.).
B. Technical Requirements
Five to ten years of broad technical experience, of which at
least two to three years should be in manufacturing operations and/or
manufacturing/process engineering.
C. Managerial Experience
Three to five years experience in managing technical personnel
and complex activities. These experiences should be gained in areas of
engineering or technical operations and should include a minimum of two years
in operations management.
